Dorset MS Therapy Centre
Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centres were first established in the mid 1970's when a small group of MS sufferers dissatisfied with the support that they received from the NHS and Multiple Sclerosis Society got together to explore different ways of taking some self help action. They found that considerable research had been done in other countries into ways to alleviate some of the symptoms of MS. They found that diet, physiotherapy and High Dosage Oxygen Therapy were the best hope of some relief and possibly a chance of slowing down the advance of the disease.

The Dorset Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre was opened in Sturminster Marshall Dorset in 1985 after several years of dedicated fund raising by local sufferers and friends. A decompression chamber was installed to provide High Dosage Oxygen Therapy (H.D.O.) (formerly called HBO) involves breathing pure oxygen at a pressure of between 1.00 and 2.00 atmospheres equivalent to a shallow dive of no more than 33 feet under water.

We are an independant therapy centre with access to expert technical and medical advice. We are also a local independent registered charity and rely entirely on raising our own funds to be able to continue our much-valued service to Multiple Sclerosis (MS) sufferers in Dorset.

PRESS RELEASE
Local MS Charity attracts much needed Lottery Funding

Members of the Dorset MS therapy centre will soon benefit from £1,173 given to them by the Awards For All Fund of the National Lottery. The Dorset charity has been given the award to pay for insulation to the ‘Pot Room’ of their Sturminster Marshall premises. The pot room houses an Oxygen Chamber, which the charity uses to provide high dosage therapy to M S sufferers.

“We have been operating for over twenty years at Sturminster Marshall, providing therapy to people with M S and other neurological conditions. In the winter it gets jolly cold in our oxygen chamber. This grant will help us provide better conditions for our disabled membership and maybe encourage more people to join us. We are a small, independent charity and we rely on the goodwill of others for our continued existence.”
